Started in 2017 as a way to release demos and songs that were piling up, FLOATS is the project of Mark Perez. Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas — where early experiences and the local music scene shaped his sensibilities — and now based in Los Angeles, California, FLOATS pulls influence from across the indie, punk, and post-punk scene. Early releases like Not an Album (2018), along with singles such as Elbowz (2018) and Dancing with Our Feet (2019), capture the raw, unfiltered beginnings of the project.
Over the years, FLOATS has expanded and evolved through releases like Stealing Turf from a Cowboy (2023) and Conspiracy Theory (2023), Dead (ft. Flowerbabe) (2024), and the self-titled FLOATS album (2024), along with newer singles Hotel Bronco (2025) and Heavens Closed (ft. THE FAZES) (2025) — each one reflecting a restless mix of chaos, emotion, and punk energy.
From 2017 to 2022, the project mostly lived online until its first live show in July 2022. What started as a solo project quickly grew into something bigger on stage, with early live support from Noel Perez and Edward Gutierrez (Pet Peeves), who helped form the core of FLOATS during its first run of shows.
Since then, the lineup has continued to shift and grow. Joseph Silva (Idrin) joined on guitar in 2023, helping push things into a new phase. After relocating to Los Angeles in 2025, Mark met current members Syd Garcia (bass), Ciara De Alba (drums), and Zach Carlson (Famous Friend) (guitar) through touring and local shows, shaping the lineup as it stands now.
FLOATS has been on a nonstop run of shows and tours across the U.S. since 2022, supporting acts like Dustbowlchampion, The High Curbs, The Red Pears, and more, while also headlining their own runs and playing festivals such as Happy Daps, Obsidian, Till I’m Dead Fest, and Sour Sun Festival. Building their presence city by city, that same momentum has carried the band beyond the U.S., with stops like Mexico City folding naturally into their run as they continue to grow and move.
The band’s live shows are a whirlwind of chaos, energy, and pure release — each set a snapshot of the emotions that drive FLOATS, loud, unfiltered, and impossible to ignore.
Beyond the stage, FLOATS is about movement and momentum — following whatever feels real in the moment and letting it take shape, always chasing a place where the band truly belongs. It’s music that lives somewhere between falling apart and dancing it off, messy, alive, and unapologetically theirs.
